Why Fundraising is Crucial to the Belleair Garden Club

Why Fundraising is Crucial to the Belleair Garden Club

COMMUNITY EVENT:  AT THE BELLEAIR GARDEN CLUB

Saturday 5/2: Something exciting is blooming in Belleair this spring!  The Belleair Garden Club and Candles for Caterpillars are partnering to host the May Day Market on May 2nd.  Set in the beautiful surroundings of the Belleair Garden Club and nearby Hunter Park, the event will bring neighbors together for a lively spring gathering.  The May Day Market is an artisan market and native plant experience designed to celebrate the connection between Florida gardens and the pollinators that keep them alive. Guests can explore a curated selection of local artisans, native plants, and nature inspired offerings while learning more about how pollinators support healthy ecosystems in our community. More details about vendors, activities, and event times will be announced soon.

A portion of the proceeds support the Belleair Garden Club's nonprofit missions.  A portion of the proceeds support  Candles for Caterpillars nonprofit missions.

Sponsorship opportunities are available. Please email Stephanie Wheeler for details: stephaniewheeler00@gmail.com.

Why Fundraising is Crucial to the Belleair Garden Club

The Belleair Garden Club needs funds throughout the year to support our scholarship and historic preservation programs.  In addition, maintaining a 95 year old building is very challenging!

In fact, the Belleair Garden Club is struggling with maintaining the structure built in 1931. It is the only building in Belleair on the National Historic Registry. The building was constructed on piers, which was a common practice at the time. However, without a slab, the joists that stabilize the structure are continuously exposed to moisture during our rainy season. Two years ago, one of the flooring joists failed, necessitating the removal of the floor, and uncovering a major renovation project. $50,000  was needed for that project to ensure that a portion of building is structurally sound.

Members have graciously donated funds to support a matching grant from the Florida Department of State, Historic Preservation Department which will partially repair the original windows. The front of the building was leaning forward and required bracing jacks. This was completed January, 2026.   Water is fed to the building via the original line which failed a few months ago.  While the leak was repaired, the long term solution will be to replace the almost 100 year old line in the near future. These are just a few of the repairs needed to restore the building. Costs are estimated to be between $150,000 - $200,000.

The Club continues to apply for grants and has instituted a “Capital Campaign” to reach out to the community to request monetary contributions to help save the building.

Junk & Jewels Sale

A Belleair Tradition Returns: “Junk & Jewels Sale” Celebrates Nearly 60 Years of Hidden Treasures

For nearly six decades, the Belleair Garden Club’s beloved “Junk & Jewels Sale” has delighted treasure hunters, collectors, and curious browsers alike — and this year’s event promises to continue that tradition of surprise, discovery, and community spirit.

First held in 1966, Junk & Jewels has grown into the Garden Club’s premier annual fundraiser, built entirely on the generosity of the community and the dedication of club members. Throughout the year, members carefully collect, sort, research, and stage thousands of donated items — from budget friendly costume jewelry to vintage and fine jewelry, plus antiques, artwork, collectibles, home décor, and the wonderfully unexpected.

“One of the joys of Junk & Jewels is that you never know what you’ll find. It’s really like a treasure hunt!” said Carol Mears, chairwoman of the sale. “Over the years, we’ve uncovered beautiful jewelry, collectibles, and unique pieces with fascinating stories — all mixed in with affordable finds for every budget.”

What makes Junk & Jewels truly special is its accessibility. Shoppers will find items at every price point, making it just as fun for seasoned collectors as for first-time visitors or families looking for something unique. To add to the fun, there is also a Plant Sale and Bake Sale. Many attendees return year after year, knowing the experience is as rewarding as the finds themselves.

The Junk & Jewels Sale is held at the Belleair Garden Club, 903 Ponce de Leon Boulevard.

The event is open to the public, and shoppers are encouraged to come early for the best selection.

Proceeds from the sale directly support the Belleair Garden Club’s scholarship programs, community gardens, and historic preservation efforts — ensuring that every purchase helps nurture the beauty and heritage of the community.

Whether you’re searching for a hidden gem or simply enjoy the thrill of the hunt, Junk & Jewels remains one of Belleair’s most cherished traditions — where yesterday’s treasures find new life and every purchase gives back.

Junk & Jewels 2026 took place Feb. 5-7.  Proceeds support the Belleair Garden Club's nonprofit missions.
